LASER HAIR REMOVAL
A safe and effective way to reduce unwanted facial and body hair
Why Laser Hair Removal?
Old fashioned ways of removing hair – waxing, shaving, tweezing and creams are time consuming and don’t last. With laser hair removal you can achieve permanent hair reduction and beautiful smooth skin. It is a safe and effective way to remove unwanted body and facial hair.
Is Laser Hair Removal Safe?
Achnabreck Lasers uses the latest laser technology and equipment which is suitable for permanent hair reduction on all skin types. Treatments are most effective on medium to dark hair. Fine and light hair is very difficult to treat. Blonde, red, white/grey hair cannot be treated.
How does it work?
The laser uses a beam of light which penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the pigment colour in the hair where it is converted to heat. The heat passes to the hair root and destroys it so no further hair can grow.
What can I expect During Treatment?
Most people feel a warm sting as the laser penetrates the hair follicle, often described as feeling like the snap of a rubber band against the skin. To minimise discomfort a cool gel is applied to the skin before treatment. The laser has a cooled window to further cool the skin surface while allowing the laser light to heat the hair follicle beneath the skin.
How many treatments are needed?
Because hair has different growth phases and the laser treatment only works in the active growth phase, several treatments are required to achieve a lasting result. The number of treatments needed will depend upon the hair density, colour and skin type and treatment area. Additional factors such as age, hormones and ethnic background can affect the results of your treatment.
A minimum of 6-8 treatments are required at intervals of 4-6 weeks, but different hair types can require more to achieve the desired results.
What should I do before treatment?
It is important to avoid plucking, waxing, creams, bleaching or electrolysis for 4 weeks before treatment - hair can either be trimmed or shaved. Certain skin products and chemical tanning lotions must also be discontinued prior to laser treatment but you will be given further information about this when you book your initial consultation.
What should I expect following treatment?
At the end of each treatment the area that has been lasered may show slight reddening which tends to disappear after a few minutes. The hairs remain in the skin but those that have been treated by the laser will gradually drop out over the next 2 weeks. Avoid sun exposure and use regular sun screen following any laser treatment.
Facial Vein treatment
Small, spider like veins on the face and nose (telangiectasia) can now be safely and effectively removed by modern lasers. These veins generally appear as part of the aging process, the result of over exposure to sun, they can also be affected by hormones or simply due to genetics. Quick and easy laser treatments can remove these vessels and even out the complexion.
The vessels usually disappear/empty immediately, some may recur or require further treatment. Treatment is relatively free of side effects, there is usually slight redness and minimal swelling that resolves in a couple of hours. In a few cases the vessel will appear darker for a few weeks after treatment but will gradually fade.
Achnabreck Lasers use a KTP-Aura laser that specifically treats broken capillaries. The wavelength of the laser is absorbed by the colour in the blood vessels and converted to heat. After heating the vessel walls collapse down and seal shut.
The procedure is relatively quick and no anaesthetic is required – if you do find the procedure uncomfortable an anaesthetic cream can be applied prior to treatment to numb the skin surface.
After treatment a soothing gel can be applied to the skin, make up can be applied immediately after treatment as normal.
You are advised to avoid alcohol, vigorous exercise, saunas and hot tubs for 2-5 days after treatment to ensure the vessels remain shut. The main thing to remember is to avoid activities that cause facial flushing so as not to re-open the treated vessels. You will also be required to wear a high protection sunscreen on a daily basis for at least 8 weeks after treatment – you are encouraged to continue this long term as part of your routine skin care regime to prevent any future sun damage.
Enhanced Skin Rejuvenation
What is Enhanced Skin Rejuvenation [ESR]?
A gentle laser treatment for wrinkles, sun damage and fine facial veins.
Achieve a more youthful appearance without needles, cosmetic surgery or recovery time.
This procedure is appropriate for the face, chest, neck and hands – anywhere sun damage shows. It can:
- Reduce facial fine lines and wrinkles.
- Treat sun damage including age spots and brown pigmentation
- Improve rosacea/redness broken blood vessels and red and blue facial veins
- Remove skin tags
- Even out facial colouring
The procedure is non – ablative and non-invasive – the surface of the skin is not damaged or removed. The gentle lasers correct pigmentation irregularities and encourage new collagen growth to smooth out existing facial wrinkles.
Who is appropriate?
He process is suitable for most skin types and colours.
What can I expect during treatment?
Before treatment a cool gel is applied in a thin layer over the treatment area. The cooled window of the laser is then placed on the skin. When energy is applied it feels like a warm pulse against the skin.
Is the treatment painful?
Most people experience minimal discomfort. A topical anaesthetic cream can be applied if required.
What can I expect following treatment?
You will be advised to apply a high protection sun screen on a daily basis after treatment.
Make-up can be applied immediately and you can resume normal activities.
You should avoid hot baths, showers, and saunas for 5 days after treatment. Alcohol and vigorous exercise should be avoided for 2 days after treatment .Immediately after treatment there may be some redness or swelling lasting a few hours.
Darker pigments and freckles may get darker and flake off in a few days.
Because laser reduces wrinkles by encouraging new collagen growth wrinkle improvement is gradual. At the time of your third treatment you may begin to note wrinkle reduction.
How long do treatments take?
The treatment uses two laser wavelengths in each session. Each session takes about an hour depending on the size of the treatment area. Usually 6 treatments are required at 2-4 week intervals.
How long do effects last?
Aging is progressive – The wrinkles and sun damage visible today were often caused years before. Care should be taken to continue to wear sun screen so no new sun damage can occur. The lasers encouragement of new collagen growth should help slow the appearance of new wrinkles. You may wish to continue with single freshen up treatments at 3-6 monthly intervals to maintain results.
Leg Vein Removal - Eliminate unwanted leg veins safely and effectively
Who is appropriate for treatment?
Treatments are effective for most individuals. Treatment works best on smaller veins, varicose veins can’t be treated. An initial consultation will be required to determine if your veins are appropriate for treatment.
How does the treatment work?
Laser light is delivered through the skin and into the vein. After heating the vein walls collapse and seal shut. The sealed vein is then broken down and absorbed by the body.
What can I expect during treatment?
You will start by meeting with Dr Darnborough to discuss the treatment and your medical history. If your vessels are suitable for treatment a thin layer of gel will be applied to the skin. The laser hand piece will be directed over the subject vein which will in many cases disappear after a single pass.
Is the treatment Painful?
Discomfort varies depending on the size and location of the vein. Many describe each laser pulse as feeling like the snap of a rubber band against the skin. As there can be moderate discomfort you may be offered an anaesthetic gel to reduce pain.
What can I expect following treatment?
In some cases the treated region will be slightly swollen and tender to touch for a day or two. A red mark resembling a “cat scratch “can sometimes persist for a few weeks. After treatment you will be advised to avoid vigorous exercise for 5 days and wear sunscreen on the treated area. You will be provided with more detailed information following treatment.
How long do treatments take?
Leg vein session scan take about 30-60 minutes depending on the size of the treatment area. While some clients may be satisfied with just one treatment, two or more treatments may be required to achieve desired results
How long do the results last?
The appearance of existing veins will be diminished or completely eliminated. The development of new veins cannot be prevented. If your body has an underlying vascular problem you may need additional treatments.
